Keith Meister, MD, of TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, Texas recommended Minnesota Twins pitcher Ryan O'Rourke undergo surgery to repair the partially torn ligament in his elbow, according to ESPN.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. O'Rourke strained his forearm before the season began but his left elbow has been sore throughout the season's beginning.
2. Twins team physicians and Dr. Meister recommended the pitcher undergo surgery.
3. There is no timetable for Mr. O'Rourke's return.
4. Dr. Meister offered Twins pitcher Trevor May a second opinion on his torn ulnar collateral ligament in March before the right-handed pitcher opted for surgery, as well.
5. Dr. Meister is head team physician for the Texas Rangers.
