Keith Meister, MD, of TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, Texas examined Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cole Hamels before confirming a diagnosis.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Hamels was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 3, retroactive to April 30.
2. He was scheduled to start on May 2 but was held out after feeling tightness in his right side prior to the game.
3. The 33-year old pitcher underwent an MRI in Arlington on May 3.
4. Dr. Meister examined Mr. Hamels on May 3 and diagnosed the pitcher with a strained right oblique muscle.
5. Mr. Hamels is expected to be sidelined for roughly eight weeks.
