Riley J. Williams III, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery will operate on Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright early next week, according to NESN.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Wright slightly tore cartilage in his left knee during spring training, but the injury was not considered serious enough for him to miss time, according to The Boston Herald.
2. An MRI taken on Mon., May 1 revealed the tear had worsened.
3. His treatment options included rehab, a knee scope to clean out the affected area or surgery.
4. After consulting with several physicians, Mr. Wright opted for surgery.
5. Dr. Williams will perform a cartilage restoration procedure at HSS on Mon., May 8.
