The New Orleans Saints fired team physicians Deryk Jones, MD, and Misty Suri, MD, after misdiagnosing cornerback Delvin Breaux with a contusion, according to ESPN.
Here are four things to know:
1. Team physicians originally diagnosed Mr. Breaux with a contusion, but after he failed to improve a second opinion found he had a fractured fibula and will require surgery.
2. The Saints decided to part ways with Drs. Jones and Suri as a result of the "misdiagnosis," according to ESPN. Surgery is expected to sideline Mr. Breaux for an additional four to six weeks.
3. Dr. Jones is a sports medicine physician at the Ochsner Health Center in New Orleans and also serves as team physician for the New Orleans Pelicans.
4. Dr. Suri specializes in sports medicine at the Ochsner Health Center. He is currently the team physician for the New Orleans Pelicans and University of New Orleans.
