Brian Forsythe, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, performed arthroscopic surgery on Chicago Fire midfielder Juninho.
Here are five key notes:
1. Juninho, a Brazilian soccer player, sustained an injury that left him sidelined from eight of the soccer club's regular season games. He eventually played for 70 minutes during the team's First Knockout Round match Oct. 25.
2. Dr. Forsythe performed arthroscopic surgery on the chronic issue without complication and Juninho is expected to return to the Fire's training camp in January.
3. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush is the official medical provider for the Chicago Fire as well as the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls. Dr. Forsythe is also a team physician for U.S. Soccer and travels with the team internationally.
4. Earlier in his career, Dr. Forsythe provided team coverage for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and New England Revolution. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at UPMC.
5. In addition to his clinical work. Dr. Forsythe is involved in research and serves as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Rush.
