Justin Tunis, MD, a primary care sports medicine specialist, and Shazad Shaikh, MD, an orthopedic sports surgeon, relocated their clinical practices from Scranton, Pa.-based Geisinger Community Medical Center to Geisinger Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Scranton (Pa.), according to The Abington Journal.
Here are four things to know:
1. Board-certified orthopedic surgeons John Doherty Jr., MD, Theodore Tomaszewski, MD, Kevin Colleran, MD, Jeffrey Gillette, DO, and board-certified rheumatologist Chad Walker, DO, along with Dr. Tunis and Dr. Shaikh, began seeing patients at the new location on Jan. 2.
2. Geisinger Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Scranton offers an array of orthopedic services, including orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, rheumatology and on-site physical and occupational therapy and radiology.
3. After Jan. 1, all scheduled inpatient surgeries will be performed at GCMC's new operating suites less than two miles away.
4. Geisinger Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Scranton will continue to perform outpatient surgeries at the North East Surgery Center in Scranton, Pa.
