Dartmouth, Mass.-based Hawthorn Medical Associates sports medicine physician Chad Beattie, MD, was hospitalized Feb. 19 after sustaining serious injuries from a snowmobile crash, South Coast Today reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Beattie lost control of a rented snowmobile while on a trail. He careened down an embankment and struck a tree.
2. Dr. Beattie was still in the hospital Feb. 20, but his condition was upgraded to fair.
3. After striking the tree, his riding party found him quickly and phoned the rental company, who in turn called New Hampshire Fish and Game. A conservation officer found Dr. Beattie and transported him back to the road, where he was rushed by ambulance to a helicopter.
4. He was admitted to Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
5. Dr. Beattie is known for his work with runners. He volunteers at the Boston Marathon annually and was at the marathon during the 2013 bombing. He was seen running into a cloud of smoke to help runners with the worst injuries.
