The Professional Football Athletics Trainer Society presented Walter Lowe, MD, with the 2018 Jerry "Hawk" Rhea Award, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Here are four things to know.
1. The PFATS presents the award annually to the NFL's Most Outstanding Team Physician at the scouting combine.
2. Dr. Lowe is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and the head team physician for the Texans, Rockets and Houston Cougars. Dr. Lowe has been with the Texans since 2001.
3. He is chairman and professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Lowe also serves as chief of orthopedic surgery at Memorial Hermann at the Texas Medical Center and LBJ General Hospital, as well as Medical Director of the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute.
4. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Dr. Lowe underwent fellowship training at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
