Kirk McCullough, MD, performed meniscus repair surgery on Swope Park Rangers defender Justin Bilyeu at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute March 15, according to MLS.
Here are three things to know.
1. Mr. Bilyeu tore his meniscus and will be sidelined for the next four months. He signed with the Rangers this offseason from fellow United Soccer League Western Conference outfit Rio Grande Valley.
2. Dr. McCullough is a board certified orthopedic surgeon at Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic of Kansas City. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City.
3. Dr. McCullough underwent sports medicine and shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship training at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, during which time he served as assistant team physician for the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Knights, a Chicago White Sox Triple A affiliate. He also underwent fellowship training in orthopedic foot and ankle at the Cleveland Clinic and became involved with the NFL foot/ankle subcommittee.
