Dr. Donald Sheridan operates on Brewers' Eric Thames — 4 insights

Donald Sheridan, MD, repaired the torn ulnar collateral ligament in the left thumb of Milwaukee Brewers' first baseman Eric Thames April 26, ESPN reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Mr. Thames tore his UCL when he dove to field a hit ball. He hit the ground hard tearing the ligament.

2. The team believes Mr. Thames will return in six to eight weeks.

3. Dr. Sheridan practices in Scottsdale, Ariz., and is the Arizona Diamondbacks' orthopedic hand specialist.

4. Dr. Sheridan earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson and completed his residency and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
