Dr. James Andrews to repair torn labrum of Twins' SS Wander Javier — 4 insights

James Andrews, MD, will repair the torn labrum of Minnesota Twins shortstop Wander Javier in mid-May, the Minnesota StarTribune reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Mr. Javier, 19, tore the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

2. It's expected Mr. Javier will need between six and nine months to rehabilitate from the injury.

3. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.

4. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays' orthopedic medical director.
