Anthony Romeo, MD, repaired the strained right lat of St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Alex Reyes June 6, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Mr. Reyes recently recovered from a 2017 Tommy John surgery. He was making his season debut May 30 when he was pulled after four innings because of arm discomfort.
2. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined Mr. Reyes had a significant strain in his right lat. Cardinals General Manager Michael Girsch said Mr. Reyes revealed after the fact he had felt soreness and fatigue after his last rehabilitation start, but felt he could pitch through it.
3. Mr. Reyes will miss the rest of the season as he recovers from surgery. The team expects he will be able to pitch in spring training.
4. Dr. Romeo recently joined Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute as their chief of orthopedics in New York City.
