Dr. Robert LaPrade earns 4 AAOSM awards: 5 insights

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine honored Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD, with four awards at its 2018 Annual Meeting, July 5 to 8 in San Diego.

The awards include:

• Fellowship Research Award — Basic Science
• Cabaud Memorial Award
• AJSM Systematic Review Award
• 2018 William A. Grana Award for Best Original Research

Here are five insights:

1. The Fellowship Research Award — Basic Science is given to the best paper in basic science by a sports medicine fellow. Dr. LaPrade won the award for his work on "Influence of Naproxen Age and Body Mass Index on the Biological Composition of Leukocyte Rich Platelet-Rich Plasma: A Prospective, Therapeutic, Cohort Study."

2. Dr. LaPrade earned the Cabaud Memorial Award, which is given to the best manuscript submitted pertaining to hard or soft tissue biology, in vitro research, laboratory or in vivo animal research, for his work on "The Influence of Graft Tensioning Sequence of Tibiofemoral Orientation During Bicruciate and Posterolateral Corner Knee Ligament Reconstruction: A Biomechanical Study."

3. The AJSM Systematic Review Award is bestowed to the best systematic review paper submitted to AJSM during a calendar year. Dr. LaPrade submitted "High Rates of Osteoarthritis Develop After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Surgery: An Analysis of 4108 Patients."

4. Dr. LaPrade received the William A. Grana Award for Best Original Paper for his research on "Lateral Meniscus Posterior Root Meniscofemoral Ligaments as Stabilizing Structures in the ACL-Deficient Knee: A Biomechanical Study."

5. Dr. LaPrade is a complex knee orthopedic surgeon at Vail, Colo-based The Steadman Clinic. He also is the CMO and co-director of the sports medicine fellowship program at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail.
