James Andrews, MD, will perform knee surgery on Redskin's Derrius Guice Aug. 17, according to CBSSports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Rookie running-back Mr. Guice suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the pre-season opening against the New England Patriots.
2. Dr. Andrews will perform the surgery eight days after Mr. Guice's injury.
3. Mr. Guice, who has been placed on injury reserve, will have almost 13 months to recover before Week 1 in 2019.
4. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.
5. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays' orthopedic medical director.
