A pioneering sports medicine physician, Dr. Peterson received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine before opening
The Sports Medicine Clinic at Ballard in Seattle, the largest, privately-owned U.S. sports injury clinic.
He also established the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Camp in Seeley Lake, Mont., American Osteopathic Association of Sports Medicine, International Council of Motorsport Sciences and Rodeo Sports Medicine.
Dr. Peterson served as the medical director of the Unlimited Hydroplane Commission. He was the assistant team physician for the Seattle Mariners and the attending physician for the Pro Rodeo Circuit in four states. He also volunteered as an associate physician for all Seattle professional sports teams.
