Detroit Tigers pitcher to undergo knee surgery in Texas: 4 notes

Keith Meister, MD, a Texas-based orthopedic surgeon, will perform knee surgery on Detroit Tigers' pitcher Matt Moore, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

 

Four key notes:

1. Mr. Moore injured his knee during a game against the Royals on April 6. He plans to undergo knee surgery on Wednesday and there isn't a timetable for recovery.

2. Dr. Meister is an orthopedic surgeon with Arlington-based Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery. He serves as the head team physician for the Texas Rangers. He has previous experience as the head team physician of the Dallas Stars NHL team.

3. In addition to serving as director of TMI Sports Medicine, Dr. Meister is an adjunct assistant professor in the department of kinesiology at the University of Arlington.

4. Dr. Meister has a special interest in shoulder, elbow and knee reconstruction as well as treating throwing athletes.
