Timothy Kremchek, MD, will operate on Cincinnati Reds rookie Nick Senzel Sept. 24, MLB.com reports.
What you should know:
1. Mr. Senzel was shut down earlier in the season after experiencing shoulder discomfort.
2. An initial examination confirmed that Mr. Senzel tore the labrum in his right shoulder. Mr. Senzel then visited Neal ElAttrache, MD, for a second opinion Sept. 16, who confirmed the diagnosis.
3. The team has yet to develop a recovery plan. Reds manager David Bell said to MLB.com, "At this point I'm hopeful we have him back for Opening Day."
4. Dr. Kremchek is an orthopedic surgeon at Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Cincinnati. He is the team medical director for the Cincinnati Reds and orthopedic consultant for the NFL.
