Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez visited James Andrews, MD, to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right shoulder, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
With reported shoulder weakness, Mr. Martinez received the PRP injection after a series of exams confirmed there was no structural damage in his shoulder. The treatment is intended to help Mr. Martinez' joint heal during the offseason.
Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.
