After being treated for elbow inflammation, Red Sox ace Chris Sale has been given clearance from James Andrews, MD, to begin throwing again, RealGM reports.
Three things to know:
1. In August, Mr. Sale received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left pitching elbow. He visited Dr. Andrews for a follow-up evaluation in late November.
2. Mr. Sale is on track with rehab, according to the team's general manager, and aims to participate in spring training.
3. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.
