Kristina Wilson, MD, will chair the sports medicine advisory committee of AIA, a voluntary association of public and private high schools, according to signalsaz.com.
Four things to know:
1. Dr. Wilson replaces Javier Cardenas, MD, beginning this school year. Dr. Cardenas will remain on the committee, which he has been involved with for a decade.
2. Dr. Wilson is a pediatric primary care sports medicine physician at the Phoenix Children's Hospital, specializing in nonoperative treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, overuse injuries, sport-specific rehabilitation and more.
3. Dr. Wilson was previously a member of the AIA's sports medicine advisory committee. As chair, she plans to guide the committee's continued creation of guidelines for "safer return to youth sports through a pandemic, with a focus on student-athlete mental health and wellness."
4. Dr. Wilson's other priorities include expanding efforts around concussion awareness and education, as well as around opiate misuse and abuse.
