Hyun Jin Ryu, pitcher for the MLB's Toronto Blue Jays, will undergo left elbow surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament, mlb.com reported June 14.
Neal ElAttrache, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, will perform the surgery on Mr. Ryu, the report said. It is unclear whether he will need a full UCL reconstruction, known as a Tommy John procedure, or a more minor partial UCL repair.
Regardless of the procedure performed, Mr. Ryu's chronic ligament injury means his 2022 season is likely over.
