The NFL's Indianapolis Colts named hip and knee specialist Peter Maiers, MD, to succeed Thomas Klootwyk, MD, as head team physician.
Dr. Maiers, of Carmel, Ind.-based Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, has served the Colts for 12 years as a team consultant and physician, according to an Aug. 2 news release from the practice. He also worked as a team physician for Bloomington-based Indiana University's football team.
"My goal as head team physician is to work with the team of sports medicine and medical specialists to maintain the respect of the players as Dr. Klootwyk has done so well over the years," Dr. Maiers said in the release. "We want the athletes to know we have their best interests at heart."
Dr. Klootwyk stepped down as head team physician in July. He will serve as a consultant for the Colts.
