Study: Achilles Tendon Strain Higher Among Males With Tendinopathy

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Achilles tendon-aponeurosis strain is higher among male athletes with tendinopathy, according to an article published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Researchers examined men who were healthy and men with mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy. Both groups ran more than 20 kilometers per week. The participants were tested using maximal isometric plantar flexation efforts, and the Achilles tendon-aponeurosis strain was calculated by dividing tendon displacement during plantar flexation by resting tendon length.

Researchers found that participants with Achilles tendinopathy had significantly higher Achilles tendon-aponeurosis strain.
