Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu named Craig M. Ono, MD, chief of staff.
Dr. Ono has served as acting chief of staff at the hospital since last December, previously serving as assistant chief of staff since 2006. He joined the orthopedic staff at the hospital in 1992. He has a special interest in lower extremity reconstruction, club feet and sports injuries.
"I'm honored to be able to serve this organization as chief of staff," said Dr. Ono in a hospital news release. "I've been given the opportunity to build on a legacy that began more than 90 years ago with Dr. R. Nelson Hatt, who served as the first chief of staff and continued by Dr. Arabella Leet, who provided key leadership over the past two years. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a very special place to me and I'm proud to be part of a team that provides so much compassionate care to the children and families of Hawaii and the South and West Pacific Islands."
During his career, Dr. Ono has served as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps., and served in Iraq and Afghanistan three times.
Dr. Ono earned his medical degree at Northwestern University and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center. His additional training includes a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Shriners Hospital for Children-Honolulu.
