Mayo Clinic to Host Ice Hockey Concussion Summit

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Mayo Clinic's sports medicine center in Rochester, Minn., will host "Ice Hockey Summit: Action on Concussion," where scientists, trainers, coaches, officials and manufacturers will come together to discuss concussion-related issues, according to a Mayo Clinic news release.

Ice hockey leaders from the United States, Canada and Europe will discuss various topics, such as the science of concussions, the impact of concussions on children and the sporting world's response. Though the summit focuses on ice hockey, the concussion-related topics apply to all sports.

The overall objectives of the summit are to provide educational updates on concussions in ice hockey — including diagnosis, management, aftermath and prevention — and identify a measureable "action plan" to reduce the risk and consequences of concussions.

The summit will be held Oct. 19-20 at the Mayo Clinic.
