David Goodman, MD, of Resurgens Fayetteville and Griffin offices, received the 2014 John C. Garrett Award.
The award was established in 2008 by Dr. Garrett to recognize outstanding leadership, community relations and patient care.
"Dr. Goodman truly embodies Dr. Garrett's outstanding character in all ways," said Douglas Lundy, MD, Resurgens co-president. "But it is his leadership and community involvement around Fayetteville and Griffin areas that makes him really stand out as the best candidate for this award."
Here are five things to know about Dr. Goodman:
1. He has served on the Resurgens Orthopaedics board for the south region for two terms.
2. Dr. Goodman was the chief of orthopedics at Fayetteville Piedmont Hospital for three years.
3. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Goodman served as an executive board member and vice president for The Joseph Sams School, a nonprofit school dedicated to educating and developing skills of children who are intellectually, physically or developmentally challenged.
4. Dr. Goodman received his medical degree at The Chicago Medical School and completed his residency at case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
5. He has a special interest in sports medicine and served as a team physician for the Star's Mill High School.
