Volker Musahl, MD, performed knee surgery on Pittsburgh Panthers' running back James Conner, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Mr. Conner suffered a MCL tear at a game on Saturday.

 

2. He will take a few weeks to heal from the surgery before he begins rehabilitation.

 

3. Dr. Musahl is the medical director of University Pittsburgh Medical Center's Center for Sports Medicine.

 

4. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

 

5. He completed fellowship training at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
