A bill that would remove boundaries for traveling sports medicine physicians' medical malpractice insurance passed through the U.S. House of Representatives, and will now be voted on by the U.S. Senate.
Here's what you should know.
1. Under current legislation, sports medicine physicians or athletic trainers who travel out of state with the team are not covered in the state they are visiting.
2. This legislation would allow for providers to treat athletes across state lines.
3. The bill is supported by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. The society's members will reach out to senators to ask for their support.
4. The bill in the house was supported by both parties, and was sponsored by Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-Ky) and Cedric Richmond (D-La).
