The University of Maryland in collaboration with College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore will soon create the Center for Sports Medicine, Health and Human Performance inside of the Cole Field House, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Here's what you should know.
1. The field house will be both research- and practice-based.
2. The center will be open to the public surrounding it.
3. The project is part of a $155 million renovation of the center as the University of Maryland converts it into a football and academic complex.
4. Founder and CEO of Under Armour and former Maryland football player Kevin Plank personally donated $25 million to the projects.
5. The sports medicine center could open in 2018. An indoor practice field, the first part of the renovation, will open in late spring.
