Dr. Riley Williams performs minor arthroscopic surgery on Philadelphia 76ers Nerlens Noel: 3 takeaways

Riley Williams, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery, performed a minor arthroscopic surgery on the Philadelphia 76ers' Nerlens Noel, the Intelligencer reports.

Here's what you should know.

 

1. Mr. Noel is the 76ers center. It is expected he will be out three to five weeks. Mr. Noel had originally thought he strained his groin during a preseason game, but it was later announced he had an inflamed plica.

 

2. Dr. Williams is a specialist in knee, shoulder and elbow surgery.

 

3. He serves as the medical director and the head team orthopedic surgeon or the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Red Bulls and the Iona College Department of Athletes. He also serves as a team physician for USA basketball.
