Major League Baseball will now standardize players' medical information that has to be released during trade negotiations, according to CBS Sports.
MLB Chief Legal Officer Dan Halem said all general managers were informed of the new rule last week.
"This is kind of an area where we've been moving each year since we adopted the electronic medical records...to get more consistency and standardization across clubs," Mr. Halem said. "It was largely left to a committee of athletic trainers to determine the types of records each club should maintain and how to maintain them. We're going to formalize it a little more and contemplate pushing for guidance in terms of what has to be in and what has to be out."
Mr. Halem stressed that the decision was not based on San Diego Padres General Manager A.J. Preller's suspension this fall. Mr. Preller was suspended for 30 games in September for concealing his players' medical information during trade discussions.
