Martin J. O'Malley, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery will perform surgery on Portland Trail Blazers guard Allen Crabbe, according to Oregon Live.
Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Crabbe underwent an MRI after a game on April 6, revealing inflammation in his left foot.
2. The guard sat out the final three games of the regular season before playing in the playoffs.
3. Further medical testing following the Trail Blazers' first-round playoff exit revealed the need for surgery.
4. Dr. O'Malley will repair a stress reaction of the fifth metatarsal bone in Mr. Crabbe's left foot at HSS.
5. Mr. Crabbe is expected to return for the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, according to ESPN.
