Dr. Keith Meister to perform Tommy John surgery on Nationals' Joe Ross — 4 insights

Keith Meister, MD, will perform Tommy John surgery on Washington Nationals' Joe Ross on July 19, MLB.com reports.

Here's what you should know:

 

1. Mr. Ross exited his July 9 start with discomfort in his right shoulder. An MRI confirmed Mr. Ross completely tore his ulnar collateral ligament.

 

2. The Nationals haven't determined a rehabilitation timetable.

 

3. Dr. Meister is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers and director of Arlington, Texas-based TMI Sports Medicine.

 

4. He previously served as the head team physician for the NHL's Dallas Stars, the NBA D-League's Ft. Worth Flyers, Gainesville-based University of Florida and USA Hockey.\
