Dr. Neal ElAttrache performs surgery on free agent Matt Garza – rumors of retirement

Neal ElAttrache, MD, will operate on free agent pitcher Matt Garza, according to MLB.com.

Here’s what you need to know:

 

1. Dr. ElAttrache will perform surgery to repair a torn labrum in Mr. Garza’s right shoulder. Mr. Garza suffered the right shoulder injury back in June 2017 when he collided with a teammate while on the Milwaukee Brewers.

 

2. While it is not determined when Mr. Garza will return, some expect the pitcher to miss most if not all of the 2018 season.

 

3. MLB.com reported Adam McCalvy said the shoulder surgery may prompt Mr. Garza to end his career in baseball.

 

4. Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic board of directors and program director for the Kerlan-Jobe Fellowship.

 

5. The orthopedic surgeon is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He is also an orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and the PGA Tour.
