Dr. Neal ElAttrache to surgically repair shoulder of boxer Vasyl Lomachenko — 5 insights

Neal ElAttrache, MD, will repair the right shoulder of lightweight world champion boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, CBS Sports reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Mr. Lomachenko popped his shoulder out of place in the second round of a 10-round fight May 12. He popped it back into place, causing discomfort during the bout. He won the fight, but was in a significant amount of pain afterwards.

2. Mr. Lomachenko was examined at Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, where Dr. ElAttrache recommended he undergo arthroscopic surgery.

3. Dr. ElAttrache believes Mr. Lomachenko will be able to return to boxing as early as October.

4. Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. He is chairman of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation board and program director for the Kerlan-Jobe fellowship.

5. He is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He is also an orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and the PGA Tour.
