Keith Meister, MD, injected Chicago Cubs' pitcher Yu Darvish with a cortisone shot to treat inflammation, ESPN reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Mr. Darvish had lingering pain in his tricep following a bullpen session June 27.
2. He visited Dr. Meister, who diagnosed and treated Mr. Darvish's right elbow for an impingement and inflammation.
3. Mr. Darvish will need three to five days for the shot to take effect.
4. Dr. Meister is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers and director of Arlington, Texas-based TMI Sports Medicine.
5. He previously served as the head team physician for the NHL's Dallas Stars, NBA D-League's Ft. Worth Flyers, Gainesville-based University of Florida Athletics and USA Hockey.
