Dr. James Andrews to examine Tigers' Michael Fulmer: 5 details

James Andrews, MD, will examine MRI results of Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer's right knee, MLB.com reports. 

Here's what you should know:

1. Mr. Fulmer was pulled out of the Tigers' Sept. 15 game after experiencing soreness in his right knee.

2. After an initial MRI exam Sept. 17, Tigers Manager Ron Gardenshire confirmed Mr. Fulmer has damage in his right meniscus.

3. Previously, the right-hander pitcher was placed on the disabled list for 10 days after sustaining a left oblique strain during the team's July 20 game.

4. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.

5. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays' orthopedic medical director.
