Jackson-based Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center founding partner and leader Walter Shelton, MD, is retiring after running the practice since 1984, The NorthsideSun reports.
The practice was created with the vision that every clinician would specialize in one region of the human body. The founding partners believed if a clinician focused on only one body region that they would be more competent.
Since then, Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center has grown to include 17 specialized physicians, six clinical locations, three urgent care locations, three physical therapy centers, two sports medicine centers and an ASC.
A retirement party for Dr. Shelton will be held at the Flowood, Miss., location Aug. 16.
