Medical device company LimaCorporate began construction of its on-site 3D printing center at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, reports 3D Printing Industry.
Three insights:
1. The facility will focus on the design and production of patient-specific 3D-printed devices.
2. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Phoenix Children's Hospital recently implemented on-site 3D printing facilities due to its increasing developments in spine and orthopedics.
3. The center is set to open in early 2020.
"Lima had placed a strategic emphasis on building its ProMade custom implant business, a market segment that can benefit greatly from use of additive manufacturing and that is fairly underserved in the orthopedic industry," said Leonard Achan, chief innovation officer at HSS.
