Chinese researchers are developing 3D-printed bionic bones with advanced biological features and mechanical strength for orthopedic implants, reports Chinese news agency Xinhuanet.
Three insights:
1. The researchers have designed artificial bones with similar compositions, structures and mechanical properties of natural bones for 15 years.
2. They studied how to use 3D printing to develop customized bone scaffolds and collaborated with technology companies to create 3D bionic bone printing machines.
3. The researchers also used a medical bioceramic material, hydroxyapatite, to generate artificial bone scaffolds to repair conditions such as bone defects in orthopedics.
