Australian research center to train engineers in 3D-printed orthopedic implants

The Australian government recently funded a research facility to train biomedical engineers in the development of 3D-printed orthopedic implants, reports 3DPrint.com.

Three things to know:

1. The Australian Research Council Training Centre for Medical Implant Technologies was launched at The University of Melbourne on Nov. 8.

2. The program combines hospital clinicians, academics and biomedical engineers from 24 organizations from clinic to design a system for 3D printed implants and surgical devices.

3. The Australian government provided $2.7 million to establish the facility to become a focal point in the medical 3D printing field.
