Benvenue Medical announced clinical data presentations for its Luna 3D Multi-Expandable Interbody Fusion System and Kiva VCF Treatment System at the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Annual Forum '16 from Oct. 13 to Oct. 15 in Las Vegas.
Here are six things to know:
1. The Luna 3D Interbody Fusion System is designed for posterior lumbar interbody spinal fusion.
2. Jeffrey Coe, MD, of the Silicon Valley Spine Institute in Campbell, Calif., will present, "Multi-Expandable Cages for Minimally Invasive Posterior/Transforaminal Lumbar (P/TLIF) Interbody Fusion – A Preliminary Report," at the annual meeting.
His presentation will describe his early experience with the Luna Interbody Fusion System as well as positive outcomes. With Luna, Dr. Coe noted an absence of nerve retraction injuries and restoration of disc height, segmental lordosis and foraminal height, as well as a lack of subsidence and maintenance of sagittal correction.
3. Joshua Ammerman, MD, of Washington Neurosurgical Associates in Washington, D.C., will discuss the poster, "Superior Articular Process Interbody Reconstruction: Feasibility and Short Term Clinical Outcomes of a Novel Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Approach."
Dr. Ammerman will describe his posterior minimally invasive approach for accessing the lumbar disc without spinal canal intrusion by using the Luna 3D interbody cage.
4. The Kiva VCF Treatment System offers an implant-based approach to vertebral augmentation in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures.
5. Douglas Beall, MD, of Clinical Radiology of Oklahoma in Edmond, will present his paper called, "Serious Adverse Events Associated with Re-admission through One Year after Two Different Approaches to Vertebral Augmentation."
He will discuss serious adverse events causing unplanned readmission for patients receiving vertebral augmentation using the Kiva VCF Treatment System compared to balloon kyphoplasty.
6. Ryon Hennessy, MD, of Orthopedic Specialists in Elmhurst, Ill., will highlight his poster, "Community Practice Experience with Subsequent Vertebral Compression Fractures during the Year after Vertebral Augmentation using an Expandable Implant."
Dr. Hennessy analyzed the subsequent vertebral compression fractures in the year after vertebral augmentation with the Kiva VCF Treatment System.
