Medtronic and its foundation pledged to donate about $1.2 million to international coronavirus relief efforts, the organization announced Feb. 10.
Five things to know:
1. The contribution will be a combination of cash from the Medtronic Foundation and company product donations.
2. The Medtronic Foundation is making cash contributions to three organizations fighting the virus outbreak: the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the CDC Foundation, and Project HOPE.
3. Medtronic is donating products including ventilators, respiratory filters, pulse oximeters and sensors, centrifugal blood pump systems, and sensors related to cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.
4. The products will be sent to Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital, a designated coronavirus treatment center in Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began.
5. Medtronic is committed to maintaining "good citizenship as a company as we aim to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life for people around the world," Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak said in a press release. "This guides our work every day, and we are determined to do everything we can to care for our employees, their families and their local communities as we address this global health crisis collectively."
