Inspan's interspinous fixation device recently demonstrated positive results in a five-year follow-up study of outpatient L4-L5 lumbar interspinous fixation for degenerative spinal stenosis.
Four things to know:
1. Inspan studied 122 cases of lumbar decompression with interspinous fixation.
2. The follow-up study found improved outcomes in patients who underwent outpatient interspinous distraction decompression using the Inspan device at L4-L5 for degenerative spinal stenosis.
3. The Inspan device fixates the spine to facilitate stability, distraction, decompression and fusion.
4. The implant is being used for spinal fusion as an alternative to the traditional method, which uses pedicle screws and interbodies with laminectomies.
