Kentucky health system installs novel spinal imaging system

Spinal Tech

The University of Louisville (Ky.) Health System has implemented a spinal imaging technology capable of providing high definition images in less than four minutes, NBC affiliate WAVE3 News reported May 24.

EOSedge fuses X-ray detection, low-dose radiation and HD resolution to improve musculoskeletal imaging.

The images can be converted into 3D models, which helps physicians with clinical decision -making for spine, hip and knee surgeries, Thomas Altstadt, MD, a neurosurgeon at the health system, told the news outlet.

"It includes parameters for the hips and the knees, so it includes planning for the entire patient, not just the spine," Dr. Altstadt said. "And the imaging quality is better. It's much improved."

EOSedge features an open cabin with a motorized patient platform, which facilitates access and positioning for patients, according to the company.
