Data from a new Rand Corporation strategic report examined how physicians feel about electronic health records.
According to the report, physicians and practice managers feel the cumulative burden of new rules and regulations have a negative impact on professional satisfaction. The "meaningful use" rules for EHR were most often cited as burdensome regulations.
The physicians felt "the current state of EHR technology significantly worsened professional satisfaction in multiple ways." They reported EHRs as time-consuming data entry and said it interfered with face-to-face patient care. Respondents also noted difficulty with exchanging healthcare information and degradation of clinical documentation.
However, the physicians did approve of EHR conceptually and enjoyed the ability to access patient information remotely.
