In an American Association of Orthopaedic Executives brief, Mandy Martin, who provides regulatory compliance and educational consulting services, discusses natural disaster recovery plans at medical practices.
According to Ms. Martin, every practice should have a disaster recovery plan, and here are five steps to include in the plan:
1. Communicate with employees to ensure a thorough understanding of the operations of the office.
2. Continually train your employees on how to evacuate the practice.
3. Remind employees where exit routes are, where the fire extinguishers are kept and how to lead patients to a designated meeting location outside the practice.
4. Coordinate with offices and practices nearby as they can help in the event of a disaster.
5. Review your disaster plan and implement any changes.
