According to the MGMA Legislative and Executive Advocacy Response Network report on the ACA Insurance Exchange Implementation in September 2013, 29.2 percent of physicians plan to participate in the ACA exchange products.
Another 40.2 percent are evaluating whether to participate and 16.2 percent don't know whether they will participate. The most common reason cited for those participating in exchange products was to remain competitive in local markets. Around 57 percent of respondents felt participating was necessary in order to compete.
Another 51.2 percent said they would participate because the ACA is an opportunity to replace their current charity care for uninsured patients and obtain coverage.
