Katie Bartush, MD, and Marissa Jamieson, MD, are the first women to join The Steadman Clinic's foot and ankle fellowship program, and the practice is proud to have more women on its team, according to the Vail Daily.
The two were among 11 fellows announced as part of the 2019-20 class last year. They are practicing under the direction of foot and ankle specialists Thomas Clanton, MD, and Thomas Haytmanek, MD.
Before joining The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., Dr. Bartush completed medical school and residency training at UT Health San Antonio and underwent fellowship training at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala.
Dr. Jamieson's prior training includes attending UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and completing a residency at Ohio State University in Columbus. When Dr. Jamieson completes her fellowship, she plans to join a Denver-area practice. Dr. Bartush will return to Texas and serve as an associate professor at UT Health San Antonio.
They were added to The Steadman Clinic's ranks just months after Leslie Vidal, MD, became the first female orthopedic surgeon on the staff in August 2019. The Steadman Clinic also had one sports medicine fellow in its 2018-19 class.
"With the way things are advancing in the field of orthopedic surgery today, it is going to become more common to see women joining our ranks," Dr. Clanton told the Vail Daily. "The current president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is a former colleague of mine from Texas, Dr. Kristy Weber [MD]. While the percentage of female orthopedic surgeons remains small, it is growing, and we are proud that The Steadman Clinic is helping that movement."
