AAOS updates guidance for patient-reported outcome measures

Orthopedic

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons created a collection of tools and resources to assist orthopedic surgeons in understanding patient-reported outcome measures.

The portfolio is part of the AAOS's "PROMs in Practice" initiative, which aims to enhance the understanding of using PROMs while providing care, offer approaches to accessible technological solutions, and achieve more optimal legislative and payer support, according to an Aug. 1 news release from AAOS.

The updated guidance includes a PROMs user guide and educational materials, webinars and publications, technology solutions endorsed by the AAOS, a list of the AAOS' recommended PROMs for each specialty area, and reimbursement and coding resources, according to the release.

"The new AAOS PROMs user guide, scoring tool and other high-quality resources distill knowledge and expertise from a broad range of stakeholders and orthopaedic experts to provide a set of best practices to facilitate an organization's ability to implement and utilize PROMs," Kurt Spindler, MD, workgroup chair of AAOS PROMs, said in the release.
